Who we are

The Friends and Descendants of Johnson’s Island Civil War Prison is the nonprofit organization responsible for preserving and maintaining the site of a Confederate prisoner-of-war camp on a small island in Lake Erie. We care for the site itself (a National Historic Landmark) as well as a robust collection of historical documents and objects and the cultural materials produced during thirty years of professional archaeological excavations.
